50 Years Since the Founding of Lumberg Nederland - Part 1: Space Exploration

Space Exploration

In January 1972, U.S. President Nixon announced the Space Shuttle Program. This program aimed to reduce the cost of space travel and make it possible to travel to space more frequently by developing a reusable spacecraft. With the return of Apollo 17 to Earth in 1972, the Apollo Program also came to an end. Astronauts Cernan and Schmitt remain, to this day, the last people to have set foot on the moon. Additionally, the Pioneer 10 space probe was launched that year, with the mission of exploring the outer regions of our solar system.

Gaming Console

The Magnavox Odyssey, developed by Ralph Baer, became the first gaming console to hit store shelves. In Japan, Nintendo launched the Odyssey, marking the company’s first steps into the gaming market. Also, Atari released the computer game Pong this year, an arcade game that gained significant popularity.

Pocket Calculator

Hewlett-Packard introduced the first scientific pocket calculator.

Providing connectivity  solutions for the aerospace and computing industries has been a common thread throughout Lumberg’s rich history.
