50 Years Ago at the Founding of Lumberg Netherlands - Part 4: Video
Fifty years ago, in October 1972, Lumberg Netherlands was founded as a branch of the German company Lumberg. This marked a major milestone, and later this year, we will continue to reflect on the key moments in our rich history. In this series, we explore what else happened in 1972. Here’s Part 4: Film and Video during these years.

In a time when YouTube and Netflix didn’t exist, the cinema was the place to enjoy the latest movies. The most-watched films released in Dutch cinemas in 1972 were:
The Godfather
Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii
Gentlemen of Fortune
Cries and Whispers
But we also enjoyed watching TV shows, even though the selection back then was far smaller than what we have today. Strangely enough, we watched these programs with even more fascination.
In the United States, 1972 saw the launch of HBO, and MAS*H premiered that same year. In the Netherlands, the Stratenmakeropzeeshow aired for the first time on VARA, a program known for addressing controversial topics for that era.
Our Role in Video Technology
Lumberg's history is deeply tied to innovations in video technology. From the early days of radio and television to today’s digital age, we’ve been at the forefront. Since our founding, the company quickly grew into a recognized manufacturer of antennas, connectors, and tube holders for the broadcasting and television industry.
Most recently, in 2020, we introduced the shielded AISG circular connector. This new round connector meets IP68 protection standards and the IEC 61076-2-106 specifications. It’s also compatible with larger cable diameters of up to 10 mm.
